Cheese Bourek: Easiest Recipe!
As most Armenians, I grew up watching my family make Bourek all the time. Bourek is a traditional Armenian pastry made with phyllo dough or puff pastry sheets and stuffed cheese. You can also include many other fillings like jalapeños, veggies, herbs, etc. but I like to keep my recipe pretty simple with just cheese!
Prep time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 15-20 minutes
Total time: 25-30 Minutes
Servings: 12
Ingredients:
1 ½ cup of Ani cheese
1 egg
6 sheets of Puff Pastry
Sesame seeds to garnish
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 350F
Cut your Puff Pastry sheets in half so it makes a triangular shape.
Cut 1 block of Ani (Armenian) Cheese in half and crumble up the cheese. Once crumbled, mix it with 1 egg white, keep the yolk aside for later use.
Place a little more than a teaspoon of cheese and egg white mix into the middle of the sheet and fold it over, pinching only at the ends.
Beat the egg yolk and take a brush to paint over some strokes on top of the pastry.
At last, top off with some sesame seeds to garnish and place in the oven for baking!
