2020: Consciousness

A new decade, new opportunities, new goals, new changes and new challenges. There will be so much “new” in this decade; but how we adapt is whats most important. As every New Year rolls along, we start writing up our resolutions which usually start with working out, being more present, eating healthier, being positive, so on and so on. But how many of us are actually living this way throughout the year. How many of us actually challenge our own resolutions? All is dandy until we have a stressful moment, a lapse in judgement, distracted by phones and society. My only wish and challenge for this new year is to be CONSCIOUS.

Consciousness includes all of the above and so much more. We are constantly talking about getting rid of negative energy and only surrounding ourselves with positive people. Have you ever thought that you may be someones negative? Oh no, not I - you think. But if we are ALL ridding the negative, we must all be positive? What I am getting at is the consciousness of our own behavior. Ever catch yourself complaining? Ever gossip? Ever sad about anything at all? We are all there, a few times a year. Instead of us all pretending that we are perfect, we need to be AWARE of our downfalls and adjust our behavior for our own mental health and those around us.

Always on your phone? Thats fine. What are you watching though? Who are you following? Are you instilling your sight, heart and mind with encouragement, motivation or education? I have and continue to unfollow anyone who does not feed my mind or just someone who discourages me. Heck, you can “Hide” if you feel guilty about unfollowing. The point is, the phone and social media is a huge outlet to so many people in the world. Social media is where they get away, connect with people across the world & disconnect from a temporary unhappy real world they live in. Some people need to connect to social media to give them constant daily motivation. My phone and social media is a happy place for me as I do not expose myself to anything that makes me unhappy. Through my phone, I try to instill courage, motivation and happiness with hopes that someone like you is watching. Again, just be CONSCIOUS if and when you are on the phone and make sure you do it on your own time. Being PRESENT with those around you is more important, phone can always wait.

Conscious parenting: such an important key today. My friend said it best once, “I was the best mom, until I became one”. It’s a job, easier said than done. Being a parent is one of, if not, the hardest job in the world. Being a CONSCIOUS parent? 10 times harder. We need to make sure we are PRESENT when we are with our kids. I am always recording my kids because I want to capture every moment and share the ones I want; but I am hardly ever just scrolling on my phone. We need to make sure were as attentive as possible and instilling consciousness into them. I have a 3 year old and a 9month old and trust me when I say, I can easily lose my sh*t sometimes; but if I am ever at that stage, I have to be conscious enough to not ever let it get there. We need to be extremely patient, we need to explain (not yell) & we need to show our love.

Same concept goes for our healthy habits. New Year rolls along and we are SURE we are going to stick to our diet this time. If you have made a decision and stuck to it, kudos! However, most fail because we put too much pressure on ourselves. If you followed my healthy lifestyle challenge, you noticed I cheated every so often. In fact, once a week, I ate everything I wanted. If I went out to dinner, I had a bit of dessert. Is the Bar Im eating up to standard with every healthy conscious member in my society? probably not - is it better than pizza? Absolutely! Everyones challenges are different, what I want you to do is to just be more conscious! Want something sweet? Have a bite. With that, drink a heck of a lot of water, take your vitamins and do your best to have healthy alternatives when picking your daily foods. I know its not easy, every day is work; but being CONSCIOUS will help you get there.

I can go on and on on this subject as I have learned a lot these past few years, but I learned, through it all comes consciousness: the way you speak to someone, the way you work, what distracts you, where your mind shifts: its all about awareness and KNOWING where your mind is at all times & shifting it back to the line. I hope this new year/decade brings you to where you want to be, mentally. If you are mentally in a good place, it will reflect in all other parts in your life. So good luck & let’s begin!
