Are You Color Correcting with the Right Shades?

Adjustments.jpeg

Color correcting has been around for decades but social media has really put it on the map. However, social media makes me cringe (as a makeup artist) because a lot of it is done horribly incorrect just to get hype. With that, viewers watch and “learn” and end up looking worse than they started.

Color correcting is meant to “correct” any discoloration that the skin may have. By choosing the opposite shade of your so-called imperfection, you cancel out the shade to a neutral. Refer to the color wheel below. For example; green will cancel out redness such as acne or rosacea. Red will cancel our green, such as tattoos. Peaches to reds will cancel out blues and purples.

I know it seems a little complicated but just keep in mind, opposites, cancel. HOWEVER, how peach or red you go - that is the question! Have you ever seen a super white girl with dark purple undereyes? Probably not. The darker the under eyes are, the darker the skin probably is - in most cases! So when I see porcelain white girls on Instagram drawing red lines all over their face, I want to scream lol. If you do this, no matter how much foundation or concealer you put on, you will still see the red! So it’s really important to know if you’re really white, go for peachier shades & the darker the skin gets, the more orange and red the corrector should be. This is why I’m SO thankful for Deepica coming out with this line, LiveTinted.

Not in the correct order, from left to right: Rise, Perk, Origin. I LOVE that she came out with 3 correctors for 3 different skin categories. Now how much you apply of each one also makes a difference; the darker your undereyes are, the more you can layer. Not only are these correctors so smart for consumers to know what they’re doing, but also super good quality. I love that the formula is not thick and borderline on the drier side but still somehow blendable! This allows your corrector to go on in a thin layer to avoid cakey-ness but also dry enough to have a smooth application without it smudging throughout the day. Also! Used it as a blush and a lipstick - perfect because it’s not sticky! Overall, this product gets an A+ from me. If you need a corrector, you must try this out! Check it out here.
